Recommended Use Especially suited to the jointing of cores and moulds produced by the Carbon Dioxide and self-setting silicate processes. Its adaptable characteristics make it equally suitable for air and self-setting resin and oil bonded sands - in fact to a whole range of general jointing and repair applications.

Purpose The adhesive is a self-setting or air drying adhesive of medium speed at normal ambient temperature. While it was originally developed for application to moulds and cores produced by the Carbon Dioxide Process its use has spread rapidly into many other areas. It has good air setting properties and when applied to cold cores sets in about 10-40 minutes depending on ambient conditions. Warmth will speed up the setting reaction but core glue should not be applied to hot cores (above about 80ºC) as it may gel rapidly and the adhesive properties will be adversely affected. Normal core and mould dressings may be applied over a dried joint but in the case of water based coatings care should be taken to avoid soaking the area.

Instructions for Use It is applied with a brush or knife to each joint face and the two parts of the joint are then pressed firmly together. To speed up setting time, make the joint in the usual way and then break it open, allowing the opposing faces to become tacky before firmly pressing together again. Maximum bond strength can be developed if necessary by stoving the joint at average core stove temperatures (180-220ºC). This is not normally necessary for routine foundry purposes and simple air drying will provide a joint of adequate strength requirements.

Storage It will keep indefinitely provided it is in a sealed container stored at normal room temperatures. If exposed to cold (below 15ºC) It will thicken appreciably; normal viscosity will be restored if the material is warmed to 15ºC for about 24 hours. Hardened adhesive cannot be recovered by attempting to remix with water as the nature of the bond changes during the drying process.

Advantages It is an inexpensive ready to use adhesive ideally suited to ensuring joints are of adequate strength with moulds and cores produced by a wide range of sand bonding processes.
